Most of the competing horses have now arrived, and the Wellington Racing Club's Spring reunion, which opens on Thursday next, and is continued on the following Saturday, promises to be as successful as its predecessors. The principal event ia the Hutt Park Spring Handicap, run over a mile and. a quarter. The race was inaugurated in 188;}, when the meeting was only a one-day flxr.ure. Old Orient, then six years old, won the Hurdle Race. Tbat was the year W. Chitham won a tieble at Island Bay with Ruby Ring (a half slater to Mount) by Dead .hot, and Dan, a gelding by Pacific. day the King of Clubs colt bad won the opening event, beating Consul and Hippona, at a difference of only 101b and 111b respectively. In the big event (one mile and a half) he ran a creditable third to Black- Rose and Leonora, who he did not meet nt the Hutr. Mr Pilbrow also had Barbary, a jumper, and old Mata, then aged, running at this meeting. At this meeting Minerva, running in. the nomination of Mr H. Horsford, won two events, and G. F. Parkea' Potaka was likewise Successful. Ugly Buck also had an easy victory in the Mai Jen Plate. Mr J. C. Eugen's Dynamite was running at the meeting, but, like tbe predicted earthquake, never came off, though he got ns near as second on two occasions. The following season the race was reduced to a mile, and a,half, aud Pasha won as a four-year-old. Albert Hoskins rode Pasha, and the same trainer won with Rumour (half sister to Pasha) ridden by Alick Sutherland, in 1888,. and Pasha ran unplaced in this race. Laurel was the next Winner, Rivulet again filling a place. The St. George horse Strenuous, ridden by M'Cor'mick, won for Mr F. Hill inIBBS. Next, year the distance was reduced to a mile and a-quarter, when M'Morran scored on Mr G. Hunter's Lenore. Boulanger, ridden by G. Collelo, scored for Mr Paul in 1890. These racers have all retired from the arena but Mr G. Hunter's Krina, who scored three yearsback, is again among tbe competitors tbis week. The winners in recent years were Revolution and Dreamland.

The Motueka races will this year be held on New Year's Day, so a Nelson correspondent informs mc. The Feathersfcon-owned mare Blenheim (by Bundoora—Farewell) recently visited St. George in the hop. of getting another Au Revoir. At the Wairarapa A. and P. Show last week Ramillies, by TattlerBlenheim, took second prize in the yearling colt class, to a colt by Derringer— Makura (dam of Mako Mako), owned by the same owner. Awatere, br m, 4yrs, by King Cole—Queen Margaret, who was engaged _tt the Taratahi meeting on Friday last, was the only exhibitor in the brood mare class. Mr J. Fabian's Sorentina, by Remington—Anterose.- was awarded first in the yearling filly class. ■ Administrator was awarded tbe championship for stallions, with Egalite secondhand Master Agnes third. The Jatter's stock were very successful act the Carterton Show. Sir Agues and Lady Agnes got first awards for* r*i*> b-year-olds and yearliogs. Louis Chemis, who took first prize in the high jump and jumping competition at the Carterton Show, has won the double three years in succession .and is, Mr W. Lingard, one of the judges informs mc, a particularly fine jumper. _ Guardsman, who was among the Maiden entrants at Carterton, but did not start, is a three-year-old broth** to Outpost, by Vanguard—Titania, and was purchased by his present owner a year ago from Mr (x. G. Stead. Camibla, who started in the mime race, is a three-year-old filly by Master Agnes—Ruth, therefore half-_ister to Comet. Mr John Lane, of Tatter-all's stable-, I was very successful at theloeal show. He ! won the Boyal Arms Whiskey Shield, a valuable trophy, for the second year In succession, and it therefore becomes his property. Bent tandem, to be driven in a dog-cart—Melos and Cleopatra, 1: Noble and Gladstone, 2; and Daisy and Sandy, 3. Best pair of cab horses and harness in constant work, to be driven— Sandy and Daisy. L . Somnus was exhibited for (he first time this season at the local show, and Mr S. M. Baker will again be able to put champion sire after his favourite's name. The Administrator was placed second, and Master Agnes third. . The other sires Present were Raugatira, Kalipha and ►erringer, the latter for exhibition only.
