"THE SHRINE OF SHAKESPEAR."
TO THS EDITOR OP THB PRESS. Sir.—Ou enquiry I find your London cWvUpQßflvO-, ia supplying copy for the Auckland Evening Star as -well aa your own paper, and this is how I came across a paragraph in the Star which certainly reflects upon mc in a very sneering manner, as I believe I am Che only correspondent of Mr Richard Savage, " Librarian and Secretary to the Trustees of Shakspear's Birthplace." I claim to be a lineal descendant of Shakespeare, and your correspondent might have seen copies of my documents relative thereto at the museum or elsewhere, but what I am sure is that Mr Richard Savage never made the statement imputed to him. And also lam not (or ever was) a tailor, nor did I ever reside at Wellington. And I don't like it to go forth tp the world, that I am sailing under false pretences," and subjecting myself *to the sneers of any itinerating journalist. I enclose copy of Mr Savage's last letter to mc, and I am writing him this mail.— Yours, 4c, 9 Wm. Jas. Dalton, C.E., ■ > High street, Auckland.
