ST. ALBANS.
The annual election of a Mayor for the borough of St. Albaus, who will succeed Mr H. O. D. Mearee, took place yesterday and aroused but small intereat. There were two candidates, whose total number of votes was considerably under 300. The result of the polling gave Mr Penteney a majority of 93 votes, the polling beiog— J. Penteney 174 votes, W. J. Brooker 81, informal 1,
After the poll had been declared Mr Feuteney thanked the burgesses for the honour which had been conferred on him. He aaid he would work in their interests, aud hoped that at the end of his term they would have no occasion to regret their choice. Mr Brooker also returned thanks to those who had voted for him. Toe usual compliment to the Returning Officer closed the proceedings.
