IMPROVED VENETIAN BLIND ATTACHMENT.

Mr Walter Gee, the well known blind manufacturer of Colombo street North, has just patented an improved attachment for Venetian blinds, which is likely to be in great demand, as "it-has several important advantages over other contrivances for holding the blinds. All the old check actions are ou the jamb principle, and thus there is always more or less wear and tear on the cords. Mr Gee's patent has these advantages—that the laths will lap closer as tapes are used instead of cords through the holes iv the laths; the blind is self-checking, self-regulating, is easier to draw up, aud may be checked at any latb. The blind is drawn up with a single cord and let down by simply placmg the finger in the loop of the cord and pressing. As soon as the pressure is eased the bliud is immediately checked. The principle of the' attachment is a roller at the top of tbe blind on which the tapes wind as the cord is pulled, thus drawing the blind up evenly. Attached to the roller is a ratchet and pawl, which checks tbe roller as soon as pressure on the cord is removed. Tbe blind can be fixed in position with no more trouble than . the older styles, and if anything, is neater at. the top. The simplicity and ease with which the blind works, and its non liability to get out of order, should give it a wide recommendationMr Gee is now using "New Zealand silver pine for laths as it is tougher aud gives a better surface than Californian red wood or American pine, while it can be guaranteed not to warp. As the different parts of the patent attachment are made in the city, and the timber used for the blinds is colonial the industry is one well deserving of support. Mr Gee has patented a cheaper form of window sun shade to take the place of the more expensive Florentine blind, and is the sole manufacturer of the spring roller blinds for verandahs.
