The Counoil resumed at 230. FIBST READINGS, The Horowhenua Native Land Bill, and the Hikutaia No. J, Block Boundary. Bill came from the House, and were Mad tho first time. Mr REYNOLDS divided the Counoil on the second reading of the latter Billon an amendment—" That the Bill be . read a second time that day three months." j The amendment waa agreed to by 12 to?.
The following is the division list s— Ayes (12)— Messrs L. Walker, Riohardtion, Reynolds, Bonar, Maogregor, Baillie, Sir George Whitmore, Pharazyn, Barniooat, Aoland, Oliver, Whyte. Noes (7)— Messrs Stewart, Bigg, Feldwick, McLean, Mantell, Sir .Fatriok Buckley, Mr Montgomery.- , The Bill was killed. : "- HOROWHENCA NATIVJS LAND. - On tbe motion for the second reading oi the Horowhenua Native; Land Bill, Mr REYNOLDS moved as an amendment--'" That the Bill be read that day si* months." He took this step as a pretest on the part of the Council' at a Bill being - sent up so late in the session without it having been even olroulated. After a debate the amendment was with* drawn and -the Bill referred to the Native Affairs Committee. BHIPWNO AND BEAMS'*. ■ The Managers at the Conference on the Shipping and Seamen's Bill reported that they had come te an agreement on th« questions at issue between the two Houses. Tbe report wai adopted and the Council adjourned.
