NORTHERN HORSE PARADE.

The annual parade of Sultans of the stud, under the auspices of the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association, was held yesterday in a paddock kindly lent by Mr W. Buss. The weather was of the Antarctic sample, hence the attendance was limited to the most enthusiastic of the horsebreeders. The arrangements of the parade were under the management of Messrs W. Pearson, W. Smart, J. Lilly, W. Scoone, W. H. Foster, and E. Mulcock. The entries were as follows:— Draught Horses. ' Pride of Scotland, by Coldstream— Duchess, by Sir Walter Scott, g d by Old Clydesdale Hero. Burnside, by Lord Dunmore—dam by Ivanhoe, g d Glasgow Maggie (imp.). Young Clauaman, by Clansman—Lady Anne, by Wait-a-Wee. Young Lome, by Lord Lorhe (imp.)— Lyly, hy Prince Victor (imp.). , Lord Ashley, by Lord Clyde—Bonnie by Major (imp.). Foreign Policy| by Lord Beaconsfield— by Prince CharUe. Roadsters and Carriage Horses. Orpheus, by Jago, by Agamemnon. Gladstone, by Balderdash—Kedjebo. Yankee. St. Clair, by St. Swithin—Maggie. Brooklyn, by. Berlin, dam by Blood Royal. The Squire (imp), by Robin HoodGipsy Queen. Vanderbilt, by Berlin (imp)— Messenger Maid (imp). Thoroughbred Horses. Fleur de Lis, by Traducer (imp)— Fleurange (imp). Ponies. Rising Sun, by Prince Charming (imp)— Mazeppa mare. Aladdin, by Prince Charming (imp)— Polly (imp. from Wanganui by Mr Jos. Page). Although the number of horses was not equal to some previous parades, the quality of the draughts was very uniform. Young Clansman showed a desided improvement since his last appearance, and is a horse much fancied. Next in the young horses we place Burnside, which was shown in rare buckle. Of the older ones we have seen nothing to beat Foreign Policy for substance or style. Pride of Scotland and Young Lord Lome appeared to every advantage, aud Lord Ashley was shown in excellent condition. In the .roadsters %nd carriage section Orpheus heuded the van, while Vanderbilt came in in good fettle, with Brooklyn and The Squire in grand form. St. Clair looked well, and Gladstone was much admired, though rather on the small side, but should develop to a well-topped horse. lankee also came up in good condition. The only thoroughbred present was Fleur de Lis, who did credit to his owner, and there were many enquiries after the old performer Son of a Gun, named on the card, but notpresent. Aladdio, the prince of ponies, was on the ground, followed by Rising Sun, both by Mr C. Dampier-Cro-sley's Prince Charming, and both a credit to the sire.
