Stdnet, August 8. j Mr J. N. Branker, the Colonial Secretary, has been returned unopposed. The Labour Electoral league have nominated a candidate to oppose Mr Cook, the Postmaster-General. The Premier estimates that daring the next; five months £190,000 more than was obtained last year will be required. to meet the Treasurer's estimate of revenue. He thinks ib improbable that the estimate will be realised. Melbourne, August 8. The debate on Mr Shiela , motion, that the budget proposals are unsatisfactory, is proceeding. The Premier has officially announced the proposed " drag net" duties are abandoned, and the old primage duty of one per cent, is reinstated.
