NOTES AND MEMORANDA.

-—«. As will be seen by notification elsewhere, Messrs Lattey, Livermore )and Co., Limited, tea' importers, have opened the premises formerly occupied by Mr S. R. Ingold, High sbreeb, as a tea warehouse. In connecbion bherewith also a tea and refreshment rooms have been esbablished and very nicely fitted up. The second "At Home" of the Christchurch Liederkranzcheu will be given in the Y'.M.C.A. Hall on 12th inst. The programme is an attractive one. The first part comprises a cantata by H. Hofman, " Song of the Norns," founded on Scandinavian mythology, iv which Miss Bonnington will sing the solos. The cantata is new here, and the music is spoken of as very good. Io the second part, iv addition to trios by the members, solos will be given by Miss H. Inglis and Miss C. Lpvegrove. Miss Fairhursb has received by the last mail copies of "The Wishing Bell," written by the eminent composer Bamett for the Norwich Festival of 1893,/ which will be given at the last "Ab Home" for the season.

The half-yearly 'meeting of the Loyal Amberley Lodge, 1.0.0.F.,M.U., was held in the Oddfeiiowa' Hall, Amberley, on Friday evening, \29th inst. There was a good attendance' of members. After sick pay to four'members and the accounts had been passed, the election of officers was proceeded with, resulting as follows :—For N.G:, P.G. Bro. J. J. Wooler; for V.G., Bro. Cuckow; for E.S., P.G. Bro. B. R. Holmes, re-elected; the retiring N.G., Bro. J. J. -Crampton, passed bo the G.M. chair. Minor offices were filled as follows:—Right and Left Supporters to N.G., Bros. P.G. C.B. Mason and P.G. Wornall; Right and Left Supporters bo V.G., Bros. S. Wornall and C. Hale; Lecture Master, P.G. Bro. G. R. Holton; Sick Visitors, Bros. R. Wornall and P.G. Bro. A. Wood. P.P.G.M. Bro. G. W. Crampton tendered his resignation as P.S. It was finally decided that the P.S. hold office to the end of the year, the N.G. undertaking to keep tbe night book when the P.S. would be absent up country. The receipts for the evening were £38 6s 7d.

Au ordinary meeting of the Rational Dress Association will be held this evening, at 8 o'clock, at the W.C.T.U. coffee room. The Kaiapoi Institute Dram-tic Club, who produced "The Lancashire Lass," intend to repeat the piece at popular prices for the benefit of the library of the institute. A very pleasing half-hour was spent on Friday afternoon, by the employees of the Christehurch Clothing Factory, iv the pressing room, at the presentation to Mr C. Myhre, on his severing his connection with the firm, of a massive gold chain and pendant, the latter assuming the form of a Maltese cross, suitably inscribed. Speeches were made by the incoming proprietors, Messrs Grummitt and White, aud very appropriately responded to by Mr Myhre, who, though agreeably surprised at the gift, expressed hia sorrow at parting with old friends aud valuable servants, but wished all whom he left behind as much if not greater prosperity than had attended them in the past. At the Lyceum last night a change took place. Instead of the ordinary Sunday lecture a musical service was given, in which several good items were rendered by the brass band and orchestra. Mr R. White was very successful in the recitation " Truth and Justice." and flute aud violin solos were given by Messrs Moss aud Buuz. Mr J. Naucarrow occupied the chair. The V.M.C.A. are commencing the second quarter of their educational classes this week. The classes, which include shorthand, book-keeping, writing, arithmetic and gymnastics, have been very successful during the past session. On Friday evening last the Christehurch W. M.C. rifle class competed for prizes, 7 shots, 200 yds, presented by Messrs J. Gould, Manning and Co., Ashby, Bergh and Co. and T. Preece, with the following leading results : —G. G. A special meeting of the Linwood Borough Council will be held this evening to consider matters with reference to the widening of the Stanmore road. The anniversary services in connection with the Durham street Wesley an Church took place yesterday. The Rev, H.- R. Dewsbury preached in the morning. Iv the afternoon an address waa delivered by the Rev. W. Sccrgie, and in the evening the Rev. H. R. Dewsbury preached. A sacred popular concert will be given in the church ou Wednesday evening next. The quarterly summoned meeting of Court Star of Canterbury, A.0.F,, will be held to-night at the Foresters' Hall, when the officers for the ensuing term will be elected. The election of a member of the Solwyn County Council for the Courtenay Riding to fill the vacancy caused by the death of the late Mr T. 'H. Anson, will take place on Thursday, 12th iast. Nominations of candidates must be delivered at the Selwyn ! County Council office, Christehurch, before noon on July sth. The membership of the Christehurch Parliamentary Union is fast increasing, and there is every probability of a large ' attendance at the Provincial Council Chamber on Wednesday, when the House meets for the first time. The strangers' gallery will be open to the public, but the ladies' gallery is reserved for the friends of members, admission to which will be by ticket. A strong and compact Opposition, under able leadership, will meet the new Ministry, which it is understood Mr Hornsby, the first Premier, is engages in forming, and some good debates may be looked lor. Ou Saturday evening a cribbage match was played between the Sydenham Chess and Draughts Club and the Press office, twelve men aside, at the Club's room. -An. enjoyable contest resulted in favour of the Club by 25 games to 23.
