It is expected the tariff aa amended by the Finance Committee will pass the Senate, but raw wool will remain free. The Bill is to come into operation on June 30th. ACQUITTED. Coghlin, charged with participation in the murder of Dr. Cronin, was acquitted. THE FRENCH WINE TRADE. Paris, March 9. The French "Chamber has resolved to reduce the duties on wine. M. Marty, Minister for Commerce, promised to bring in a Bill to encourage wine culture and export, and to try and replace artificial by natural wine. ITALIAN FINANCES. Rome, Maroh 9. Ib is reported thab the Premier intends to utilise two hundred million lire. (£8,000,000) reserves held by Italian Banks to discharge the internal debts of Italy, replacing the reserves by means of fresh notes. PORTUGUESE INSULTS. Capetown, March 9. The Portuguese at Ted*, on the Zambesi, inflicted a series of petty annoyances on the English workmeu engaged on the telegraph line, and finished up by firing on them. The latter replied.
