At the hoar men' tioued a young man named John P, Perry in the employ of Mr Kincaid of the G.LC., drove his spring trap as far as Mr Booniogton's, chemist. Upon alighting he locked the wheel and went into Mr Bonningtou's shop for a few minutes. Presently the Sumner tram came along startling the horse slightly. Unfortunately while the horse was in this condition a large dray loaded with timber came along, and one of the E rejecting planks caught the horse's ridle and dragged it off the animal** head. Young Perry cjune out of the shop in time to see his horse start off at a fnrious gallop towards Manchester street. Upon turning the corner of the latter street in the direction of the North Belt the trap collided with a lamppost,'smashing it to pieces and slightly damaging the trap. The horse continued his career, and when oppo« site the Queen's Hotel in Manchester street got on to the footpath, and shortly afterwards brought the trap into violent collision with a telegraph post, The shook was'bo great that it broke the harness, sending the horse clear ahead, while the trap lay on the ground smashed into a considerable number of pieces. Eventually the horse, was secured near Hereford Btreot, and did not seem to bo very much injured. The wire had to be cub to liberate it. Mr Moorhouse and Mr Mcintosh, who had been in the gig, were out of it at tbe time of the accident, but Mr Moorhouse. in attempting to catch the animal, was knocked, down and bruised about his legs, tho vehicle going over him.
