FIRE BRIGADES' DEMONSTRATION.
(KRKS3 ASSOCIATION TILKORAM.) , NAPIER, March 7. j At the annual meeting of the Fire Brigades , Association Accident Assurance Society, the balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £22113s Bd, with an increase on \ the year's working of £90 173 Bd. The report recommended the reduction of the contribution to 3s per member per year. The report was adopted. The following officers were elected :—President, Mr Cummings; Vice-Presidente, Messrs Waterworth, Smith, and Bellanger; Secretary 1 and Treasurer, Mr Gilbert. The competition began to-day on the Recreation Ground. The day was observed as a full holiday, the attendance was large, and the weather was perfect. The competition was very keen and the times made were very good. The Corowa team, from whom much was expected, were nowhere, but they were handicapped by the fact that one of the members was just recovering from a serious illness contracted on the voyage across. Their style of working, however, was inferior to that of the best New Zealand teams. The following are results:— Manual Engine (dry), for one man.
