HEAVY WEATHER ON THE COAST.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) j Wellington, February 26. The shipping iv port to-day has been completely disorganised by the heavy southerly | gale which has beeu blowing with unabated j fury since yesterday morning. The arrixal! of several steamers from other ports has | been considerably delayed, while the departures .of others has been postpoued uutil the weather moderates. Up till midnight! there were no sigus of the M„whei-> from the West Coos'., the ivmiieii from the North, and the Te Auau from Sydney via Auckland and East Coast ports; : bub the first bwo have 110 doubt sought shelter at places en route, while ] the Te Auau, beiug right in the teeth j of the gale, would be unable to make much , headway. The Te Anau'a departure for' Melbourne via the south has been put off uutil thiee o'clock to-morrow afternoou. A ' large number of intending competitors at j the Rifle Association meeting will bo passen-, gers by her. i The weather is now bitterly cold, but ■ although a high wind still prevails the rain j (at midnight) appeared to be clearing oif. j
A very large water spout was reported by the signal station as having been observed off the Heads thia morning.
The briganlhie Enterprise, bound from Kaipara to the Bluff, has pub iuto the haibuur through stress of weather.
