MERIVALE FOOTBALL CLUB.
The annual meeting of the Merivale Football Club was heid in the City Hotel last evening; Mr A. E. White (captain) occupied the chair, and forty-eight members were present. The report of the Committee stated that the balance sheet showed the receipts to have been £39 12a lid and the expenditure £87 2a 9d,. leaving a balance to credit of £2 10s 2d, and besides thia, there were assets volued at £20. There were now 135 members on the roll. Votes of thanks were recorded to the ladies who presented the two banners, Mr J. Macnamara and Mr Lowry. The Committee recorded with great satisfaction the.winning by the' First Fifteen of the championship of Canterbury. In the foreign matches the First Fifteen played 14 games, winning 15 and losing 1. The score for the Fifteen was 218, and againat 43. The Second Fifteen played 10 games, winning 7, losing 2 and drawing 1, scoring 72 points to 41. The Third Fifteen played 16 games, won 10, lost 6, scoring 115 points to 87.
Twenty-two new members were elected. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr A. E. G. Rhodea (reelected) ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs R. H. Rhodes, Isaac Gibbs, W. Homer, J. McNamara, J. Molloy, T. Gapes, E. C. Aaliby, L. Bergb, W. Peters and Dr. Pahner, and the Hon. W. P. Reeves; Captain, Mr A. C. Whibe (re-elected); Deputy Captain, Mr A. R. Johnstone; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr W. G. Garrard (re-elected); General Committee, Captain. Deputy Captain, Messrs F. Leach, J. D. Fraser, H. E. Keyword ; Selection Committee, Captain and Messrs W. Richards and F. Leach; Delegates to Canterbury Rugby Union, Messrs VV. G. Garrard, F. Evana, F. Leach and H. Lowry. On the .notion of Mr Nathan*, seconded by Mr C. Menzies, it was resolved— " That the delegates be instructed to vote for affiliation to the New Zealand Rugby Union, provided the Canterbury Rugby Union have a fair representation on that body."
The opening game was fixed for Saturday week. It was decided to send a team to Wellington at Easter if possible to play the Melrose,
The Committee were instructed to obtain a training room at once. Mr Biggins offered a trophy for the best all round player in the Club's first fifteen. Mr W. Bailey was elected a life member. Votes of thanks to the past officers and the Chairman closed the meeting.
