SUMNER EXCURSION.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —Will you kindly allow mc, through th.j medium of your paper, to make a suggestion to those who at present manage the Tramway Company, viz., that on excursion nights two cars may be reserved "for ladies only." Judging'from my experiences (as a middle-aged and married woman) last Tuesday week, I have no hesitation in Baying that it is absolutely unsafe for any young woman to enjoy what might be a pleasant outing unless accompanied, by ..several male friends, unless the authorities think fit to adopt my suggestion. It appears to be the custom for larrikins of a certain class (factory hands, I imagine, from their style of dress) to take this excursion in a body, to drink as much beer and eat as much bread and cheese at Sumner as they find time for; and then, on tbe way home, to insult all respectable people by hideous noises and indecent songs. The guards and decently-behaved passengerswere l&iit Tuesday week quite unable to protect the ladies from these hordes of ruffians, who actually danced a breakdown inside the car. j YOUrS, &C, ■■':..: A Horrified Matron.
