A PECULIAR AFFAIR.

AUCKLAND, February 1.
James Donnelly Aleekham, of Ohara, near Mongonui, was adjudicated bankrupt on January 26th on a creditor's petition. Intelligence was received to-day that the bankrupt's store was burnt to the ground during the absence of the custodian* the safe broken into, and a portion of the contents had been found on a man living in the neighbourhood. It is understood the building and Btock were partly insured. The police are investigating the affair.
