DUNEDIN DEPUTATIONS TO THE HON. J. G. WARD.

DUNEDIN, February 1. A deputation from the City Council «rsited on the Hon. J. G. Ward, and urged ,£at the new gaol should be erected outside tiecity. Ia the course of his reply the Minister said the object of the Government was to prevent the incurring of unnecessary expenditure, but if the report of the experts thowed that the telephone system coulu not De worked with the single trolly system of ' electric tramways, then the necessary alterations to the telephone system would be undertaken.
