SUMNER BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Council was held ou Tuesday. Present —The Mayor (Mr J. Tait), Crs. Kitaon, Collins, Hayward, Hughes and Grajiam. Cr. Carpenter sent an. apology for absence. Correspondence was read—From the Auditor-General, forwarding balance-sheets of the borough accounts for the half-year ending 30 th September certified as correct. From Mrs Davy, complaining of the annoyance to her caused by the discharge of firearms on the road near her residence. As this is a breach of the by-laws, and an offence under the Police Offences Act, the Clerk was instructed to bring tho matter before the police authorities. The Treasurer's statement showed receipts Bines last meeting, £29 18s 2d; balances, Dr. waterworks account, £568 Is Id ; Cr. general account, £117 8s Id; debit Bank balance, £450 13s; general and special rates outstanding, £183 7a; sanitary rates .outstanding, £6^. 7s Bd. . - Accounts -for £47 9s :7d 'were passod for' payment. An applicationjfrom Mrs Milea for an extra supply of water for garden purppses was granted on similar terms to that of former applicants. Resolved—That Mr J. Crawford be appointed borough valuer for the year 1894. The draft agreement between the Council and Tram Company for a water suppiy for the use of tram engines was approved of. Cr. Kitaon spoke on the financial position of'the'Conns-V showing the absolute necessity of getting in all outstanding rates at pnce, and the collector waa instructed to do so without delay. The reports of tho Engineer aud Yv"orks Committee were approved. Mr J. L. _ell and others waited on the Council re sanitary matters, and received an assurance that the matter would receive the attention of the Council. Cr. Kitson brought forward his motion of which notice was given—" That further steps be taken to procure a loan, but previous to the amount being stated a report be furnished by. the Engineer of the cost of the extension required and the balance which will be available to meet that cost." The meeting then terminated.
