Today his Honour will sit in Banco at 11 a. m., when the case of RadSeld (appellant) v Armstrong (respondent) will be taken. As Ashbcktok Case.—A Wellington telegram says that James Osborne was arrested there on two charges of breach of the Bankruptcy Act laid against him at Ashburton, and has been remanded to Ashburton to appear there on Friday next. The prisoner was aent South yesterday. Hail.—A heavy storm of had took place through the centre of the North Canterbury district on Saturday night, and in one instance an accumulation of hailstones in a corner, whither they had been directed by the wind, bad formed a lump of ice which next morning still weighed close on a hundredweight. Yesterday, io the same corner, a thermometer on the wall registered 93 degrees of heat. Thb Bishop of CHRisTCHrncH. The Bishop of Christchurch visited Geraldine on Tuesday and held a confirmation service in the evening. The Rev. J. Preston, incumbent, presented thirty-seven candidates for confirmation, twenty-five females and twelve males. Yesterday the Bishop paid a parochial visit to Woodbury, and was entertained at Mrs Turton's residence, where he was met by the parishioners. Last night at St. Thomas', Woodbury, ten candidates were presented for confirmation. The Rifxe Association Meeting.—A well attended meeting of citizens, convened by Mr T. Gapes, Mayor Elect, was held yesterday afternoon at the City Council Chambera, to consider what steps should be tsJken to assist the local Committee in arranging for holding the next meeting of the is'.Z.R.A. here. A telegram was read from Major Sommerville announcing that on the guarantee sent by Captain Harman, Christchurch'had been selected as the place of meeting for 1894. After adding three members to the Collection Committee, the meeting adjourned. A-Tkxd.-. c_ Prizes.—ln reference to a " Topic of the Day," which appeared yesterday, oa the subject of attendance prizes we are informed that the Richmond School Committee two months ago decided in alloting prizes to allow ten absences in the year, and not to count absences where the pupil ia absent through illness if a doctor's certificate is produced. This no doubt tends to mitigate the objectionable nature of tbo system, and other Committees who are wedded to attendance prizes might very well follow the example of not counting absences through illness. CtCLrso Recokds.— From information to hand, it appears that the times given by the Press Association for the fourth and fifth mile, when Reynolds broke the ten miles record at Napier on Saturday are incorrect, and he did not break the five miles record, as mentioned in yesterday's issne. Tho correct time for the four niiies is lOmin 51 loth sec ; and for five miles, 13mtn 42 1-5-h see, not lOinin 5 l-sth sec, and 13min 4 2-sth sr-c, aa previously reported." Had the Press Association's message been correct, Reynolds woull have ridden his fourth mile in lmin 57 2-sth sec. which would have been a world's record for a mile. The Latk Fatality.—The body of the unfortunate torpedo-man, John McKenzie, who was drowned iv Lyttelton harbour on the 2Slh ulu, was found yesterday morning on the rocks at- Hawkins' Point, off which the fatality occurred, by Messrs Ante and Isherwood, two members of the Permanent Artillery. The body was at once taken on board the Government launch, was brought to Lyttelton and conveyed to the morgue. Although the features were unrecognisable, the body was easily identified by the clothing, anU conseqaently no inqnest will be cece-sary. The deceased will be accorded a military funeral, which takes place at 3 p.m. to-day. Little Rives.—A meeting of the vestry of St. Andrew's Church was held in the Schoolroom, Little River, on Monday evening. The members present were—Messrs white, Kay, Fox, J. Coop, Bean, Reynolds, Harris, and H. Smith. There were also present Mr H. E. Tyson (Churchwarden), and the Rev. H. T. Purcbas, who occupied the chair. Three tenders were received for tbe work of enlarging the church, and after discussion it waa unanimously resolved that all of the tenders be rejected aa being, in ibe opinion uf tbe meeting, much too high. It was agreed that fresh arrangements be made to bave the proposed work effected. It was also decided that a social gathering be held on the 9th of January to commemorate Biahop Selwyn's first visit to little River, iv the year 1844, and a committee was appointed to make all necessary arrangements.
