SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Selwyn County Council met at 10.30 a.m; yesterday. Present—Messrs H. W. Peryman (in the v chair), R. Westenra, J. G. Murray, W. Boag, T. H. Anson, J. Rennie, W. Dunlop. An apology was received for the absence of Mi D. McMillan. The Chairman Btated that since the last meeting correspondence had been received from the Auditor-General, forwarding the accounts; from the South, Malvern Road Board, asking for a grant in aid of repairs to the Kowai footbridge; from the Rakaia Road Board, recommending the painting of the Coalgate bridge ; , from the Avon Road Board, in reference to the supervision of White's bridge ;" from the Charitable Aid 1 Board suggesting the payment of contributions by monthly instalments; from the Ellesmere Road Board, forwarding estimates of-cost of a- new bridge over the Selwyn at Ellesmere; the reporb of the Halswell Drainage Commission wi:h reference to the proposed works at the canal; from Mr Leemiug in reference to the road from the Whitecliffa railway station to the coalmine ; from the Heathcote Road Board, regarding condition of Dyer's Pass road; from the Minister of Lands concerning a proposed exchange of land for plantation purposes. Reports on water-races and plantations. The Council decided that it bad no fundto spend in repairing the Kowai footbridge, the account of the South Malvern Road Board being already overdrawn, a similar answer to be sent to the Rakaia Road Board, in respect of the Coalgate bridge, it being, understood, however, that if the Boards cared to undertake the respective works, the cost would be made a first charge on the new allocation. .The request of the Avon Road Board re payment for supervision of White's bridge was approved. The letter from the Charitable Aid Beard was referred to tbe Finance Committee, as also was correspondence respecting a traffic bridge over tbe Selwyn at Ellesmere. The Halswell Drainage Committee recommended that the plans and specifications for drainage works at the canal and Halswell river be adopted, and tenders in. ited. The report was approved. It was decided to write to the Government concerning the condition of tbe road from the Whitecliffa railway station to the coal mine. Consideration of the improvements to Dyer's Pass road was deferred. The Council spent some time on waterrace and plantation matters and then adjourned.
