In the Legislative Council the afternoon was, after some formal business, occupied with a discussion on the motion for the second reading of the Land for Settlomont Act Amendment Bill, which was defeated by 17 to 14. In the evening the Conspiracy Bill was committed, and after tho passing of clause 2 progress was reported. The Railway Bill was further considered in Committee, and having been reduced to a very short title and two clauses was reported, the third reading being set down for next day. The Workmen's Wages Bill was road a third time and passed. After some unimportant Bills hud been advanced a stage the Couucil rose at 11.35.

The House of Representatives continued ite sitting yesterday morning after the Telegraph Otfice closed. The debate on the Public Works policy was prolonged till 2.40 a.m., when the House weut into Committee of Supply on the Public Works Estimates, every item of which went through without alteration, and the sitting concluded at 3.55. At the afternoon sitting a large number of questions was answered. A short Electoral Act Amendment Bill was passed. Tho Criminal Code Bill passed through Committee, and was reported with amendments. In the evening tho Electoral Act Amendment Bill and the Criminal Code Bill went through their final stages. Tho Cheviot Estate Bill was read a second timo and put through its final a;ayes. Three other small Bills were similarly disposed of, and the House rose at 12.35.
