TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —Yesterday, on enquiry from Mr J. Alpe, of Colombo street, I was informed that it had been determined by the Acclimatisation Society that fishing licenses for the ensuing season should be only procurable from the Secretary. Hitherto, tbe public have been able to obtain licenses from Mr Alpe and other well known and respectable persons doing business in the town. Why, then, this most inconvenient interference with the golden rule of "let well alone ?" Further, the Secretary, Mr R. Foster, advertises that only between the hours of 12 and 1 can licenses be obtained, except in cases of application by letter, when stamped envelope must be enclosed. Another worrying restriction. There may be a profundity of wisdom in the new departure, but to the uninitiated the Society's action must appear vexatious and irritating. —Yours, &c, Angler, 27th September, 1893. [It w'll be seen from onr report of the Acclimatisation Society that the regulation complained of by our correspondents has been altered.—Ed. Press.]
