NEW ZEALAND HORSES IN AUSTRALIA.
Referring to Pygmalion's running; at the Adelaide Grand National Meeting the Observer says:—The horse was out for the first time in public since Mr File par chased him iv Melbourne, and when being saddled up he had a. large audience. He was, however, voted to be somewhat backward yet, and in the betting market he was, in consequence, comparatively neglected. At the Warwick Farm races on August 22nd Tresfeldb ran third In the Flying Handicap, aad Signess second in the \i arwick Handicap. Randwtck training notes of August 24th state that Melinite, who improves on acquaintaiace, had Stepnfak and Ich Diea for companions. After cantering round from the shed the three broke awey from the mile post, and covered the mile in Iminsl4sec, the mare apparently palling over her stable companions. A Sydney paper says She New Zealand bred fiily by Castor from Victoria has been named Planet, and the filly by Nordenfeldt from Maid of Atuol has been designated Tartan. The New Zealand bred mare Clog* dropped a filly to Splendor at Hobartville on August 17th.
The New Zealand horses are heavily nominated for the events at the A.J.C. Meeting, as will be seen from the engagements, they have, as here noted, outside the two chief handicaps, a fall list of acceptances for which appear in the usual place:— . .* First 16. Thiai. Squatters* Handicap, one milo and a quarter—Melinite, Stepniak, Heather Bell, Impulse. Third Day—September 21.
Craven Plate, w.f.0., one mile and a quarter—Wakawatea, Loyalty, Stepniak. Fourth Bienntat. Stakes, one mil? and a quarter— Puiinamu, The Possible, Kempenfelrit. SuiiURBAJf Handicap, seven furlongs— Wwern, Henther Bell, Ich Dien, Melinite. Wycombe Stakes, w.f.a., one mile three furlongs—Loyai ry. Sydney Handicap, one mile and a half —Stepniak, Meliuice, Impulse, Launceston. Fourth Day—September 23. High Wkight Handicap, six furlongs —Wakawatea, Meliulte. Members' Handicap, one mile one farlone —Ich Dien. Waverley Handicap, one mile and three quarters—Stepniak, Melinite, The Dreamer, L»unceston, Impulse. Randtfick Plate, w.la., three miles— Loyalty Stepniak, The Dreamer. Final Handicap, one mile and quarter —Wyrern, Heather Bell, L*unceston. Mr S, Hordern has bestowed the following names on his two-year-olds:—Ch f by Castor—Necklace, " Collarette;" b or br f by Nordenfeldt—Yattacy, " Maori Belle;" b or br f by Nordenfeldt— Punjrawerewere, " Entangle:" and borbr fby Nordenfeldt —Ouida, "Novelette." The last named Is a Rister to Strathmore. Niagara takes up stud duty at Warwick Farm this season. . , Wyvern has been accepted for in both the chief handicaps at the Hawk-sbary meeting, which takes place on the 7th and Uth Inst.
At the RoseniUponv races on August 25th Tit. carrying Tut 121b, easily disposed of a big field in the Clyde Handicap, five and a half furlong*. She started a warm favourite.
