ELLESMERE.
The ordinary meeting of this Beard took place on Friday, September Ist. All the members were present, Mr K. Lockhead is the chair. Correspondence was read—From the Secretary Lees ton School Committee, renewing application for footpath. The Board decided to adhera to its former decision, for want of funds, and deferred the application for the present. From F. S. Maddison, applying to save the ruts in Hanmer's road filled in. From Seiwyn. County Council, intimating that a deputation of that body would wait at 2 p.m. on the 4th. inst. at the bridge, to inspect came, and inviting the Board to be present. it was resolved that in the opinion of this Board the railway bridge over tiie Seiwyn at Ellesmere can be utilised for ordinary traffic The fact that the trains only cross the bridge twice daily to Christchurch would give ample time and safety to both railway and other traffic. It was decided i that the County Council be requested to j apply to the Minister of Public Works for i the necessary power to carry the above reso--1 lution jnto effect. From Canterbury Col' ! lege asking the Board to issue notices to three of their tenants to clear gorse off the road adjoining their property. From Seiwyn I County Council re unemployed, making ; modified conditions to which subsidy should jbe granted. From District Lands and j Survey Offics re thirds, also enclosing I map. From Captain Willis, two letters jre ploughing roads. The Board decided sot ; to give permission to plough the said roads. : From the Treasury, re balance of Bubsidy, - £42 16s 9d. The Overseer's report was ; read and considered. Re footpath at , DoylestoQ. Decided, as the Drain road v i in good order to the. station, rot to under* ; take the footpath. The Clerk was in* ;' structed to call for tenders for th« clearing of gorse on roads not cleared 'by the owners. The Clerk was in--1 structed to have repairs done to main Bakaia road near Loe'e Gums, The pay* • sheet, amounting to £200 Is 6d, was passed i for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
