AUCKLAND NOTES.
September 7. A man named Smart had a narrow escape from losing his life while travelling on the train between Tepapa and Onehunga yesterday. He was sitting on the platform with another man when he lost his balance, falling off the train. Subsequently the man was able to walk into Onehunga. He complained of feeling hurt internally, and believed that some of his ribs were broken, but immediately continued his journey to Awitu. It is stated in Auckland political circles that the Liberal Association will run Messrs W. J. Napier, W. Duncan, and T. Thompson for the three Auckland seats at the coming election, this will leave Mr Shera one of the present members, out in the cold, but no doubt he will be able to take care of himself, and will certainly be a candidate. Mr Adam Porter aud Mr W. Crowther, Mayor of Auckland, will also take part in the struggle. The Liberal Association will support either Mr J. M. Dargaville or Mr Moir, a prominent member of the Board of Education, for the seat against Mr. E. Mitohelsoh; and Mr E. Withy, who defeated Mr J. A. Tole some years ago, is spoken of as an opponent to Mr F. Lawry for Parnell. Many of the candidates are already hard at work.: -
