BOY THIEVES IN AUCKLAND.

_*_ (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, September 6. Two boys were arrested last night while sleeping iv a packing case in the City Market yard, covered with sacks, and part of the proceeds of several robberies beside them. They are aged pine and nine and ahalf years respectively, and had not been home for days. They entered the City Market on Tuesday and stole goods to the value of about £2. J. Green, dealer's shop, and Walker's, bird fancier's shop, were also gone through. On last Sunday they had entered the premises of Wainock Bros., Durham street, Potter and Co. adjacent, and Donald and Edenborough's store, where they had a good feed of fruit. In the other places they only knocked things about. They broke Crockery, aud strewed soap in, the back yard at Warnock's, and cases and bonbons at Green's on the floor. At Walker's, bird fancier, a valuable dove was found with neck wrung, and eggs worth a guinea a setting had apparently been taken up- and pelted at the birds. The boys were charged to-day at the Police Court, and made a clean breast of everything. 'Accused were of a ragged, street urchin type, dirty, yet intelligent looking and scarcely tall enough to look over the dock. Inspector Hickson applied for a remand, as several of the stolen articles were missing. He would in all 'probability afterwards apply to have the boys seno to the In J ustrial School. '1 he police have other charges against the lads, as the detectives also found in their possession three tobacco pouches filled with birds' eye tobacco, a valuable whalebone walking-. Stick, and other articles which as -yet await owners.
