SOUTHLAND HIGH SCHOOL

(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) INVERCARGILL, August 28. Mr Highton, Rector for several years of the Southland High School, has resigned. Nine months ago the Board of Governors appointed a Committee of themselves and outsiders to investigate the causes of the alleged unpopularity ot the schooL This Committee reported some months ago, but the Governors have taken no action thereon, and Mr Highton, tired of waiting in the present tentative position of affairs, has accepted another appointment. The Governors discussed the Endowments and Education Reserves Bill, and resolved — " That this Board desires to express strong disapproval of the provisions of the Bill whereby the power dealing with endowments may be vested in the Land Board, feeling that such a step would seriously affect the revenues to be derived therefrom, and thereby impair the usefulness of the schools." It was pointed out that the Board had already lost revenue by the dealing of the Land Board with a portion of their endowment.
