Melbourne, August 9. Tbe Metropolitan Board of Works has adopted the report of the Finance Committee respecting the new loan. VICTORIAN POLITICS. Daring the debate on the Budget a motion to report progress, which was regarded as tantamount to disapproval of further taxatioo, was carried by 44 to 33. The Premier intimated that he would require a straight out vote on the income tax at the next sitting. MINISTERIAL UTTERANCES. Speaking at the Mayoral luncheon, the Minister of Defence said the Victorian Government were taking steps to bring about reciprocity between the colonies. The Treasurer stated that, even with vigorous retrenchment, the Government would require to find new sources of revenue. THE NEW GOVERNOR OF TASMANIA. Hobart, August 9. A large crowd assembled to meet the new Governor, and he was accorded an enthusiastic welcome.
