COMMERCIAL NEWS.
The dulness which has been so noticeable in general business during the past few weeks still continues both in the wholesale and retail trades. The Railway goods sheds are bare of imports at present, and will not show any business activity until near the end of the month, when the Coptic and Pakeha should put in their appearance, the hitter with a considerable cargo. But' little of interest respecting Foreign markets has come to hand this week. Shipments of Indian tea to New Zealand from the opening of sales in Calcutta to the 10th June comprised only 15-,556 lbs. The China crop is reported of rather better quality all round than last season.
The volume of exports, which has lately been fairly satisfactory, is likely to be swelled shortly by the mess pork industry, preparations for which are now in progress in the North Island. In this connection it may be noted that the United Kingdom imports yearly about 250,000 tons of bacon, haras and pork.
