KAIAPOI ODDFELLOWS' ANNIVERSARY.
. «. On Friday evening an "at home" e&tnering of the members of the Loyal Kaiapoi Lodge of Oddfellows, with their wives and visitors, was held in the large hall of the Order. An excellent repast was laid by Bro. D. Brown, the tables being decorated with pot plants. After dinner the Chairman, Bro. W. Fraser, P.P.G.M., proposed the toasts of the " Queen and Royal family," " The Governor" and "General Assembly," in connection with the latter referring to the recent lamented -death of the Premier. Mr R. Moore, M.H.R., made a suitable reply. To the toast of the " Grand Master and B iard of Directors of the Manchester Unity," Bro. J. Kent, P.P.G. M., responded to the health of " The District Officer," proposed by the Vice Chairman, Bro. G. Eumuuds, P.G. Bro. Heyward, G.M. for the North Canterbury District, ia response, referred to the fact that the funds of the Unity amounted to about £8,000,000 and of members numbered half a million. " fcsaccess to the Kaiapoi Lodge" was moved by Bro. Keut, P.P.G.M., who is really tne fouuder of that Lodge, and in reply Bro. S. Goldthorpe, N.G., and Bro. Ellen, P.S., referred to its flourishing condition, there being 125 memoers and the Lodge capital amounted to £1500. bister lodges were next honoured, and representatives of Rk-carton, Addington, Benevolent, and the Loyal City of Christchurch responded. Kindred Societies were also included in a special toast. Next " The Local Governing Bodies" was proposed by Mr Moore, and responded to by Mr W. Doubleday, Mayor, an l Bro. Fraser, Chairman of the Waimikariri Uabour Board. " The Visitors," " The Ladies," " Press," and " Host" were duly toasted, and afterwards a dance took place. The music for this was sup. plied by the Maori. string band, Mrs Uru presiding at the piano, and the Native musicians gave complete satisfaction. 'Hie Brothers of the Kaiapoi Lodge did their utmost to provide for their visitors everything which should make a happy "at home," and iv «very respect they succeeded to an admit able degree.
