CALIFORNIAN THISTLE.

TO THB EDITOR OP THE PRESS. Sir,—l observe my friend, Mr Joseph Gould, in your columns to-day mildly criticises my action in Committee of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association regarding the above most obnoxious pest. I thought then, and I think now, that an anonymous letter was insufficient ground to form the basis of communication between that body and the Agricultural Department of the Government. I thoroughly approved of action being taken by the Association upon their own initiative, supported by the individual knowledge of the members. lam also quite alive to the dangers of this weed, and have consistently urged upon farmers (both in print and out of it) to abandon the purchase of cheap (?) undressed seeds, and use only the best from reliable houses. I have lately obtained a specimen sample of Californian thistle seed, and shall be happy to show it to any farmer who wishes to inspect it at my office.—Yours, &c, E. G. Stavkley.
