HAWERA, May 13. The liabilities of N. Fairs and Co., bankrupts, are set down at £1900, including —-.000 to his wife. The assets are valued at £600. There are creditors all over the colony. t Four more informations, charging McLean, Young, and others, with horse stealing, have been sworn. WELLINGTON, May 13. The members of the legal piofession to-day took formal leave of Mr Robinson, late R.M., now District Judge. Twenty-six were present besides a number of officials of the Supreme and R.M. Courts. Mr Edwards, on behalf of his confreres, testified to the care Mr Robinson had always bestowed upon the cases before him. Mr Robinson, in reply, mid he lelt very much complimented by the number of .barristers present. He mentioned that during his hve years' tenure there had passed through the Court yearly an average of four thousand cases. Mr Tennyson Smith has abandoned his proposed trip to America, and therefore will not represent New Zealand at the Congress, orHhe Good Templars at the Right Worthy Grand Lodge. A smart shock of earthquake was experienced here at 6.15 this morning. The Premier has ordered the plans for the Te Aro goods station to be proceeded with as originally designed. Mr Seddon, in a letter to Che Mayor, says that no othtr course is open, as the proposal to take land on the town side would cost £50,000. He also declines to give any compensation. It is stated that Government are not satisfied with the dismissal of the charge of drunkenness against Detective Ede, considering that sufficient weight was not given to the evidence of Detective Campbell and that a conflict of testimony is not likely to conduce to the efficiency of the force. The Government printing office will undergo reorganisation before the new chief is appointed. OAMARU, May 14. A capital sale of freehold properties took place yesterday. Messrs Yallange, Christie and Co. offered forty-six lots, comprising town sections, township* sections, and a number of rural properties ranging up to ten acres. All the lots were sold, the rural land fetching up to £23 an acre.
