NORTH CANTERBURY SALEYARDS PUBLICAN'S BAR.

TO THE EDITOR Of THB PRESS. Sir,—l think the North Canterbury Sale* yards Company might save its money and i perhaps the temper of some of our shareholders as well by cancelling the instructions which have been given to have a publican's bar erected at the yards. It is Eerfectly clear the licensing of suoh a bar y the local Licensing Committee would be perfectly illegal. The last local option polling decided that the number of publicans' licenses should not be increased hi the district. The granting, therefore, of even a conditional license would be a breach of the existing Licensing Acts, aud would render the Licensing Committee' liable to costs for an injunction order to any person who might apply for the same against the granting of the license. I hope the Saleyards Directors and the Licensing Committee will therefore acoept timely warning. —Yours, _c., T. 8.8. Rangiora, May 9th.
