OTAGO CENTRAL RAILWAY.

(PRESS ASSOCiATION TELEGRAM.) DUNEDIN, May 11. A meeting was held to-night of delegates from the Couuty and Borough Councils, and from the Otago Central Railway Leagues, to consider tiie position of the Otago Central. The gathering waa a representative one. The following resolutions were carried : —l. Urging on the Government, the Minister for Public YY orks, and the members of Parliament the necessity of making provision during the ensuing session for constructing the Otago Central Railway to such a point beyond the Taieri river as will command the traffic of the district, including the Maniototo Plains, inasmuch as the rugged nature of the country between Hyde and Kyeburn renders the existing roads unsuitable for and impedes such traffic and prevents settlement on a large area of Crown lands which, with railway facilities, could be profitably occupied. 2. That the main traffic from Central Otago has not yet been carried out by railway, aud until the line is constructed and working to the point indicated, such traffic cannot and will not be so carried, and that in consequence the large expenditure already incurred remains unproductive. 3. That it is requisite that the bridge to cross the Taieri river, near Kyeburn, an J. such other ironwork as it may be necessary to import, should he at once contracted for, bo that it may be ready for use when the railway reaches points at which it will be required. 4. Thai the line should b" opened for traffic from point to point as constructed. 5. The resolutions to be forwarded to the Premier aud others.
