THE CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW.

The annual chrysanthemum show of the Cbxistchurch Horticultuial Society opened in the Oddfellows' Hall yesterday. There was a very fine show as a whole, all the blooms being ia excellent condition. In the open class for eighteen incurved Mr D. Craw only received second prize, the blooms being hardly up to show mark. For twelve incurved Mr Beumelberg came first with a nice staud, including good, blooms of Mabel Ward, Queeu of Knglund, Empress of India, and Alfred hotter. Mr Craw had a good aland of Mrs Diion, for sat incurved, one variety. Mr Brooking took fust prize for twelve renexcd. The best blooms vreie Amy Furze, Alfred Salter, and Culluigfordi- Tne eighteen Japanese sent by Air Brooking deservedly received first prize. The stand was an exceptionally ano one, and contained grand blooms ot Madame Baco, Maiden's Blush, Sunset, Louis Boehmer, auU Avalanche. Mr Porter bent a nice staud of twelve Japanese. The t>tand included five blooms of \V. H. Lincolu, Eynstord White, Vivian Morrell, Duchess 01 Albany and Comte De Genniny. Tiie suuie exhibitor took first prize for six Japanese, oue variety, with a good stand ot Mr Charles E. &nea. Jdr l J orter was also successful in the class for twelve anemones. The best blooms were Fieur tie Maine. George JSanus, John lliorpe, Acquisition, and M. C Lecocq. For twelve incurved varieties, outdoor grown, Mr J. Tyler, gardener to Air J. B. Fisher, was tirat with a nice stand, the best in which were Alfred Sailer, Mabel Ward, Golden Empress, aud Prince Altred. Mr Brooking Bent a line fctaud of twelve Japanese,' outdoor grown. The beat b.ooma in tins stand were Lilian B. Bird, Aladaiue Baco, Eynsford "White, and John The same exuibitor took first prize for twelve reflexed out-door grown. The champion piize tor Japanese eighteen was takeu uy Mr S. Brooking. 7lia Stand comprised some very line biooina, notably Mudaine Baco, Louis Boehuier, Vivian Moreli, and Ada apaulding. The ■econd was takeu by Mr A. Perry, Timaru, and the third by Mr J. Porter, Ashburton. Tor the eighteen incurved Mr Brooking took the champion prize with a good stand, ttie best of which waa Queeu of .Eugland, Jean d'Arc, Lord Eversiey. And Mabel Ward. Mr J. Porter came second with a good staud. For six champion blooms ot Louis Boehmer Mr Brooking was first and Air J. Porter second. For six champion blooms of Eynsford White, Mr Brooking was fiist, and Mr A. V. Macdonald third. For six champion blooms of Margaret Stoddart Mr G. M. Small was iirst, Mr S. Brooking second, aud Mr H. C. Clark third. For six champion blooms of Avalanche Mr Brooking w*s rirst and Mr D. Craw second. For the two champion chrysanthemums, one incurved and oue Japanese, Mr Brooking waa first with Miss M. A. Haggas »nd R. C. Kingston. Mr Porter was second with Wirite Nessus aud Vivian Moreli, aud Mr Tyler third with Mrs S. Coleman and W. H. Lincoln. The amateur ■class was well represented, the champion exhibitor in the class being Mr G. M. Small. IThe Rev. B. Erwin, Mr ft. E. M. Evans, and Mr J. G. Blyth were also successful exhibitors.

The judges disqualified all the trusses exhibited, there beiiig more than the three provided for by the scuedule. Iα some cases, it may be noted, the competitor thought it incumbent upon him to bruig the whole plant, as no less than eight or nine trasses were sent.

Mr R. E. M. Evans sent some beautiful "bouquets of white chrysanthemums and maiden hair fit for a royal wedding. Miss Blyth had a fine basket of chrysanthemums, and Miss Ethel Wilson sent a magnificent floral device of chrysanthemums and Virginian creeper. Mr Abbot had on the stage one of the finest collections of chrysanthemums seen here. It was in the form of a bank, and the effect from the hall was very fine. Mr Dutton and Nairn and Sons had also collections of chrysanthemums aad ferns which were well worth looking at. The fruit, which is exhibited in the back room, is very fine indeed. It is, of course, Sincipally composed of apples. Of these essrs Hurdley (Mount burners), Stokell and Tripp (Geraldine) send some very fine-apples. The show was fairly well patronised in the afternoon and evening. To-day it will be open from 10 a. in. The following is the Prize List.
