Wednesday, May 10. (Before C. Louisson and R. P. Lonargan, Etqs., J.P.'n) Drunkenness.—For this offence threo men. first offeuders, were each fined ss, or, iu default, twenty-four hours' imprisonment. Breaches of By-laws. —J. Barrett, for riding a bicycle on a footpath in Ferry road, was fined ss, with costs 7s. 11. S. Drummond, for allowing a chimney to take tire, was fined 10s, with costs 7s. Alleged Illeoal Impounding, &c—• Rd. .Evans, ranger and poundkeeper at Heathcote, was charged with illegally impounding two cows, the property of Kate McGrugh, aud Richard Drew was charged with uaiug olisceiie languuge to the same complainant; .both offences t iking place on April 291h. Air Loughnan appeared for the complainant, Mr Kippenberger for tho defendants. Plaintiff slated that the cons and two others were being driven home wheu defoudauts rode up and cut them out, the bad language being used at the same time. The defence was that the cows were gruziug, and not in charge of anyone ; there was ho bad language. Several witnesses on each side gave contradictory evidence, and the cases were dismissed. Costs wero not allowed.
