TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS.

Sir, —In reply to a letter in this morning's issue headed " Anti-Teetotal," I may say to " Jason " that I am a teetotaller as (•mill as a Prohibitionist, and I would like .te know what "Jason" is; but I presume from his former correspondence and rabid condemnation of teetotallers generally, that he is either a brewer or a brewer's share--ooker and does not wish to see a drop in the share market in that line, and consequently he must be an anti-teetotaller. He says that the teetotaller would like to prevent him from eating and drinking what %» thinks proper. I say that neither the -teetotaller or the Prohibitioni-t do anything of the kind ; they do not prevent any man .from eating and drinking what he pleases; {but we do say that the drink which is .being sold at publichouses has been, And is, the cause of shortening the lives of thousands annually, and that no xnan should be allowed to make his livelihood by the sale of an article that is now jraining the bodies and souls of the human jEamily. Neither should any man have the Sight to sell that which is the principal cause of crime, poverty, disease aud death, and that saddles the community with the ex•pense of the maintenance of Judges, Magis--trates, police, jails, jailers and asylums, Sorely " Jason" can have no objection to the people having the right to decide this question at the ballot box whether or not Jttiis traffic should exist in onr several districts. By inserting this you will much oblige.—Yours, Sec, Root. C_j_pha-»__ May Bth, 1893.
