THE CIRCUS.

There is nothing bo exhilirating as the) laughter of childhood, and nowhere does one hear it to such advantage as at a circus performance. Men of the world scarred and worn with the battlo of life see through the glamour which ia so roal to childhood* 'But the child takes all it eeoe for the reality, and enjoys to the full. Mr FiluVe great tent on Saturday afternoon was a wonderful sight, being filled with children, who most thoroughly and completely enjoyed the excellent programme prepared for them. In the evening there was a very large attend* ance and the programme of the preoeding evening was given with great success. For this afternoon md to-night Mr Fillis announces a change of programme, inolud* ing the introduction of several new artistes and the performance of a Royal Bengal tiger in the ring. This animal ha* a fight to a finish with his trainer, Mr John Cox. Were it not that the tiger has beeu wonderfully well trained the ohanoes are that the finish, would be as regards the trainer. But this $a not ao, fortunately for Mr Cox, bo that he does not take the ride like the lady in the couplet- inside, instead of outside, the tiger. That the nature of the great cat, whose name ie a ayuonym for all that tis ferocious, has been subdued to such an extent as to stand getting the worst of a fight speaks volumes in favour of Mr Cox's method of dealing with wild animals as well as his pluck. As the railway authorities are running excursion, trains from all stations on the Little River and Southbridge lines, our country cousins should take the opportunity, of coming to town to see this really magnificent aggregation of talent.
