The weekly returns of the Bauk of England, published today, show the total reserve to be £15,010,000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 41.38.
Three months' bills are discounted at 2| per cent. Consols, 99.
New Zealand Four Per Cent. Inscribed Scock, 104£; Three and a Half Per Cent, do, 96£.
Frozen mutton, first quality, 4d per lb; second quality, 3 11-16 th d j lamb, About 1200 carcases oi the Coptic's cargo, chiefly Lyttelton mutton, was damaged.
New Zealand hemp, fair quality, £23 10s per ton.
New Zealand long-berried wheat firmer at 30$; South Australian firm at 33s 3d ; Victorian also firm at 335, An Australian Wheat cargo has been sold at 30s 6d.
The American visible supply of wheat, is 95,017,000 bushels.
Sugar—German beet firm at 17a 9d; Java also firm at 18s 6d. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde. 40a 9d.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cable message from London, dated May 5 th:—
Frozen meat—-Marke 4 ; quiet ; quotations unchanged since last telegram.
Tallow — Market firmer. Fine mutton tallow is worth 30s per owt. Good beef tallow is worth 27s 6d per cwt.
