On tho following .Sunday, July 17th. when running before a very heavy gale in lat. 57.30.~5. long. 79.10 W., she was pooped by a sea, which carried away the wheel, wheel chains, and after companion with binnacle attached, and filled the deck half full of water. The chief ofiicar, Mr Sydney Morgan, who shipped at Lyttelton, was washed along the deck and over the side, but managed to get hold of tho royal backstays and pull himself inboard aga : u. The ship boached tc and filled herself fore and aft. When tho water cleared away it was found that one man had baen killed outright by being struck on the head, and five others were seriously injured. The ship lost her foresail and fore lower topsail. A month later they passed a water-logged vessel named the lannie Wolston, which was floating about right in the trjvek of vessels. Ou September 22ud the Everest fell in with another gale, which, blow away the main aud fore lower topsails. From this time sho experienced fairly good weather till her arrival at Liverpool.
