THE LYTTELTON ORPHANAGE.
TO THE EDITOR 07 THX PRK33. Sir, —I feel confident that an appeal through your columns to kindly disposed persons on behalf of the children of the Lyttelton Orphanage and other destitute little ones will not be made in vain. . Although the number of children in actual residence at the institution is limited, yet there are in all about fifty boys and girls " boarded out " —most of whom until recently have known no other home from infancy than the orphanage at Lyttelton; and to each of these it is proposed, if means are forthcoming, to send some tangible proof, in the shape of a Christmas gift, that there are people in the world who take a friendly interest in the destitute orphan, or may-be deserted or neglected child of unworthy parents. There are other fifty poor children under the supervision of the Charitable Aid Board, but not belonging to the Orphanage, who would doubtless equally appreciate a book or toy or other means of deriving childish pleasure. Any contribution in money or in kind will be thankfully received, and distributed to the best advantage, by either Mrs Newton at the Lyttelton Orphanage, or myself at the office of the Charitable Aid Board, Worcester street, Christchurch, as may prove more convenient to the donors.— Yours, &c, Thos. C. Nobbis, Secretary.
