RIFLE SHOOTING.
, A team of ten representing' the Tiraaru 1 Navals visited Ashburton on Wednesday, aud fired a friendly match against tea of the Ashburton Rifles. The Navals were under the command of Lieut. Thomas, and the Rides under Lieut. Mnller. The visitors * arrived by the 10.30 a.m. train, and were met at the station by members of the Rifles, and then driven across to the range, firing * commencing shortly after eleven o'clock, the' * weather being'favorable. Thr ranges, were 8 200 yds and 500 yds, seven shots each, and " 500 yds, five ehota, there not being time to fire the seven. The match proved a most * interesting one, the Navals proving the * victors by 13. points, the total scores being, 0 Timaru Navals 567, Ashburton Rifles 564. * The visitors were entertained at luncheon on the ground, and cheers and counter ' cheers were given prior to their departure * for Timaru by the 3.45 p.m. train.
