At the inquest on the Ross fire, yesterday, the jury found that the building had been burned through the explosion of a lamp, but there was no evidence to show that it had not been done accidentally. ; TIMARU, October 3. There is fine weather and a good attendance at the stud horse parade to-day. Only nineteen were shown, including ' nine draughts, bub they are a good all round lot. \ DUNEDIN, October 4. The foundation stone.of the monument to the late Rev. Dr. Burns, one -of the founders of the settlement, was laid yesterday with considerable ceremony in the presence of a large gathering of old residents. Mr Robert Chapman, who was for many years Registrar of the Supreme Court, has given £1000 for the monument, and the foundation stone was kid by his son Mr C. R. Chapman.
