Lojtoon, August 23. The Economiit xurges that finanoial Companiee, similar to the email Banks which have recently failed in Hobart, Melbourne, and Sydney, should be prevented by law from incurring liabilities in exoees of their uncalled capital, and that depoaitora should be protected in the went of liquidation. It regrets that liaky concerns like these should be allowed to pose in public as Banks.

Stdkbt, Aueust 24. At a meeting of shareholders of the Australian Mercantile Loan and Guarantee Company, the manager said he believed that if depositors would grant an extension of twelve months for payment, new directors were introduced, and eight. shillings per share called up the Bank would be placed on a satisfactory footing. The meeting adjourned to await further particulars.
