New York, August 22. Ihe explosion of a ooiler caused the collapse of a five-storey building in the city. The ground floor was occupied by a restauraut-keeper and a cigar factory and printing works were situated in the upper stories. A large number of people were buried in the ruins, which caught fire shortly after the collapse. Some sixty persons were either killed by the falling timbers or burnt to death, among the namber being several who were lunching in the restaurant. "When the accident occurred, eonio of the unfortunates were slowly roasted to death before the eyea of the rescuers. Received August 25th, 1 a.m. Xew York, August 23. The building, which was reported to be blown up on Saturday, was a hive of businesses, and it is feared a hundred people have perished. One man was roasted to death. Three children, who were playing on the pavement, were buried, but their voices were heard, aud the firemen worked like madmen. A boy called out, "Please save my little sister, she's all bloody." In the end the efforts of the rescuers were successful, and all three were saved. Ie is now said the cause of the catastrophe is doubtful.
