Drunkenness. — Three first offenders ere fined 5s each.
Alleged Embezzlement. —William Cook, a youth, was charged with the larceny as a s >rvant of 10s on August Bth, and a further sim of 2s 6d on the 19th August, the pro I erty of his employer, Elizabeth Drinkwell. (»n the application of Inspector Pender the charges were altered to embezzlement, and the accused pleaded guilty. The accused 1 ad been brought up a month previously on t similar charge, and his employer agreed to i withdraw it and take him back and give lim another chance. He waa employed to { o round with groceries, and had to account i>r moneys received. Mrs Drinkwell said ihe had given him another chance, but he l)ad commenced to rob her again. She did iot know if there were other sums than t lose mentioned, as she had not been round
to the customers. She did not know whether the accused had got into bad company, or whether he drank. The Bench sentenced him to fourteen days' hard labor.
