KOCH'S CURE.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS.

Sir, —Patients ignorant of curative measures seek the physician's aid and advice. It is the physician's very responsible duty to select the best remedy known to him for his patient's quick recovery. Any person wishing to experiment with tuberculine in any part of the globe should commence on himself first, animals next and patients last. Ido not think it is courageous or humane to inoculate "extracts of the toxius of tuborculosis" on my fellow creatures. Ido not seek the applause of any "Civis." I hope the Hospital Board will not permit any more experiments with tuberculine until those doctors anxious to try it have experimented on themselves, or, at anyrate on the lower animal-. It has been known to kill a monkey in a month (Rev.deTher. Med. Chir.,March 15th, 1891). I hope the Government will stop the use of it in New Zealand pending further information "from Herr Koch himself.—Yours, kc, W. E. Hacon; p.g.—Believe mc, Sir, I am not bigoted or pigheaded, lam relying on fact. I have no antipathy to use foreign preparations ; and I have, to your knowledge, successfully cultivated the lymph of Professor Warloment, of Brussels, whereby this colony and the colony of Victoria are now able to supply calf lymph.
