FAILURE OP A SHIPMENT OF APPLES.
(fskss association ____3_AM.) AUCKLAND, May 22. A shipment of nearly 2000 cases of Tasmanian apples which were sent to San Francisco, by the Monowai, arrived in a rotten state. It is alleged that they had been stowed improperly. Whether it was the heat of the hold, or the natural heat of the tropics, that destroyed them, does not appear. The value of the consignment was 3500 dollars. In addition to the freight and duty Camarinos had been drawn upon by Peacock for 850 dollars through the Bank of British Columbia. A suit against the consignees by the vessel will probably be commenced in the United States District Court by Camarinos, Captain Metcalfe having prepared a certificate stating that the ventilation of the hold was had. ■*•**•*■■■_-«--___■
