WORKING MEN'S CLUB RIFLE CLASS.

ANNUAL SUPPER.

The annual supper in'connection With the Ctoißtchnrch Working Men's Rifle Class waa held in the hall last evening. The tables were tastefully laid with a tempting display of viands and decorations of flowers and ferns. The daterer was Mr ft. McCarthy, custodian of the Club, and he had carried out his work well. The Chairman, Mr T. Stapleton, President of the Club, Btated that Mr Wynn - Williams was to have presented the prizes, t>iit was unable to attend, as he waa unwell, - and had sent an apology. The Chairman also stated that apologies had been received from a number of other gentlemen. He then called upon Lieutenant-Colonel Gordon to present the prizes. Lieutenant-Colonel Gobdoh then presented the prizes as follows -—Mr S. Bterwart's wedding trophy, the Gould trophy {marble dock), Mr W. H. Williams- prize -jf* Illustrated Egypt") Messrs Mason, Struthers and Co.'s cup, Mr E. W. Humprey's gold medal (aggregate prize), Mill. __erey_ box of cigars, Messrs Anisebrook's tin of biscuits, to W. B. Scott; Mr O. Bonnington's walking-stick and Messrs Coates and Co.'s silver beaker, to J, G. L. Scott; Me-srsChryßta-landCo.'sboxoftea, to H. McCarthy; 1 dozen of Eden George's photographs, to C. McCarthy; Mr W. B. Perceval's, M.H.R., biscuit box, and pipe (resented by Rifle Class, to G. R. Joss; Mr H. Bullivant's box cigars, to R. C. Wells; Mr H. CaudweU's box of cigars, to W. G. Munford; 1 dozen of Messrs W. Gillespie and Co.*. essence of coffee, to J. Glanville; 1 dozen R. W. Meers and Co.'s photographs, to A. W. Jones; Rifle Class silver medal, to G. W. Ffrost; Rifle Class drinking flask, to C X Bird; 1 dozen of Messrs Hayward Bros', assorted pickles, to C Pickering, E. Hardcaatle aad W. G. m_____.

Mr W. B. Scott presented the wedding trophy and the Gould trophy back to the One*, and the announcement waa received "With applause. The toast of «*The Queen" was duly -honored, and The ________ proposed the toast of **The Army, Navy, and Volunteers," coupled with the names of Lieut. •Colonel Gordon, Major Francis, and Sergeant-Major Woodcock, of H.M.S. Cozagoa, who re•ponded. Mr W. Garrard proposed tha toast of •* The donors of prizes." Messrs R. Struthers, E. 0. Ashby (of Ashby, Bergh and Co.), Major Francis (of Messrs 8. Manning and Co.), and Mr Tribe fit Mesaara Parker and Tribe), also re4poaded. Mr Joet Soott proposed the toast of «_Ghe $E_ze winners,'* and _fr W. B. Soot, respondedMr Ed ek G_K)__ib proposed the toast of to the Rifle Class," which was raponded to by Messrs J. Glanville JCGentain) and J. Moladoe (Secretary). Mr A. W. JoirES (gab-Captain) proposed the toast of " Kindred Clubs and Classes,'' __ich was responded to by Messrs E. Hardcastle and J. G. L. Soott. Mr G. H. Mason proposed the toast of the".Captain, sub-Captain and officers of <fche Class (past and present}," and was responded to by Messrs G. Woodrough, W. Garrard and the Captain." The Captain then presented Mr J. Mclndoe with a gold medal, on behalf of the class, and with a dressing case, given by the class, in recognition of the valuable services he had rendered as Secretary. Mr*Mo__doe suitably responded. The Captain, on behalf of the Class, also presented. Me_-ra J. Gent, A. W. Caldwell, and R. C. Wells with gold medals as a mark of appreciation of the work they had dome for the Class.

The recipients duly responded. The toasts of the "Ladies" and the «• Press "wore honored and the proceedings were brought to a dose. ■ During the evening some excellent aongs were sung by Messrs J. Glanville, J. Gent, G. R. Joss, C. Pickering, G. Woodrough, J. R. Davidson, T. Stapteto-t, R, C. WeSs, G. H. Mason and others, and the gathering was the most successful held in oc__e____ With the Rifle Class.
