LAND SALE AT AMBERLEY.

Mb Wm. Buss, as auctioneer to the trustees under the will of the late Mr Hugh McLean, of Amberley. held a sale of nine parcels of land, inclusive of the well-known Crown Hotel, at Amberley, and three parcels of land, inclusive of the Great Northern Hotel, at Waikari, yesterday. Naturally a large concourse of persons were attracted to the proceedings. Conditions prepared by Mr G. H. N. Helmore, solicitor to the estate, were read. Mr Buss said all the .properties were under the Land Transfer Act. The principal were the hotel properties, for which two he .expected to find a ready

sale, for the reasons that the Crown Hotel was well known as a house of call, and the Great Northern waa in the centre of a district which must ultimately become a large agricultural centre when tbe land in the district came to be settled by an agricultural population. It had been decided to ask cash for these properties, as the executors of the estate found it necessary to realise a certain sum, and they thought it was more likely to come from the hotel property than the farm lands. It was well known that come rain or shine, come joy or grief, the hotel was- a place in which business thrived in this district. Committees of moderate and reasonable mea bad been elected, who were not likely to interfere with the hotels unless they were _? fc w _> ll , , «>nducted. The reputation which they Ijad held, he considered, would be amply repaid by the results of the sale. !_. h *__ be<sa said tngkt he (Mr Buss) thought of purchasing certain sections at the end of the town of Amberley.
