CENSUS RETURNS.

AUCKLAND, May 14.
The following are the census returns for the County of Eden (including the city) r— Males, 26,743; females, 27,460; total, 54,203. City of Auckland—l 6,466 males, 15,040 females; total, 30,006. M__u_-&u County—624B males, 6899 females; total, 12,147. Waitemata County—lß7o males, 1594 females; total, 3464. The Borough of Auckland shows a decrease of 3165 persona, while the County of Eden, in which the city is situated, has an increase of 10,311, which is diminished by the decrease in the city to an increase of 7166 on the joint totals of the county and city. All the other counties show an increaa-e—Mftnukau of 674, Waitemata of 1162, and Rod-ley of 221.
The census returns, as completed, would appear to show that there is a decrease in th. city population of 3160 persona, as cornEared with the numbers of the last cenitua, ut in the county of Eden, in which the city is situated, there has been a total in* crease of 7156.
NAPIER, May 14. The complete census returns show the EuropeanpopuLation of Hawke's Bay county to be 16,778 -, Patangata county, 2043; Waxpawa county, 8870; total for census district, 28,924. Napier borough has 8448 inhabitants. In all parts of the district there we substantial increases over the last osusruf returns.
